About Chicago Window Guide

Chicago Window Guide is an independent resource for homeowners replacing windows in Chicago. It is operated by Compass Camper LLC, an Oregon company trading as Compass Lead Group.

What we do

We publish what the City of Chicago actually requires for window work, what the work costs and what moves that cost, and how to compare two quotes that look nothing alike. When a homeowner wants quotes, we pass their details to an independent licensed window contractor working in their part of the city.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or install windows. Not now and not through a subsidiary.
• We do not rank contractors. We cannot document a ranking, so we do not publish one.
• We do not publish a price we cannot attribute. If no source we can name and date supports a figure, the figure does not go on the page.
• We do not charge homeowners. See how we make money.

Why an independent site can say useful things

A contractor's website has a reason not to tell you that your job may need no permit, or that repair may beat replacement on your particular windows. We have no such reason. That is the whole editorial position, and it is also why the first thing this site published was the city rule that saves people money rather than a sales page.
